1. Even if the weather looks okay beforehand, it'll always be hot.
GiphyDon't worry, with any band camp it'll always be hot. Everyone just hopes it rains or you get to play a water game.
2. Freshmen in high school are just scared kids.
GiphyTreat them like anyone else, you were once a scared freshman too. They just want to fit in and get everything. They just haven't experienced this before. Don't worry, they'll pick it up quick.
3. It's super awesome to go up on the lift.
GiphyThat lift that the BD uses to see everything from above is super fun. It's just as fun as four years of anticipation and wonder will make you believe.
4. Marching bands look super cool from above.
GiphyThat being said, when you're on the lift is looks awesome. Seeing everything from a spectator point of view is a new perspective that you get. It makes you realize just how much all your hard work for the past four years pays off.
5. Handing the power and responsibility of section leader off to someone is incredibly hard, but also rewarding.
GiphyEven when you've known them two or three years, it's still hard. I trust the boy that took over for me and will fr the next two years, but it's still hard! I showed up to help him transition into the position so he doesn't have to do it alone. But watching him and the other upperclassman achieve the leadership position and thrive in it is so rewarding, it makes me feel almost like a proud mother.
6. Everyone there is so young.
GiphyAll the inside jokes from your freshman and sophomore years are slowly dying out and you realize that you can't all make fun of the past student teachers. The younger ones never experienced the awful student teachers that you had, they don't get how awful they were!
7. It's still your family.
GiphyThey still welcome you back with open arms as much as you want to visit. They know you're busy with college but they still love seeing you and will accept you anytime, any day.

Mondays are usually the worst days of the week. At least they can feel like days.
1. Mondays bring out the worst in you.
2. Honestly half the time you are surprised that Monday isn't all that bad.
3. But the other half of the time ends up being a stereotype.
4. And any dreaded day is worse than thought.
5. You tried your best.
6. You end up like this.
7. Even if you started the day all happy.
8. No matter what you just can't be perfect.
9. Honestly just good advice.
10. Yes. The one good things Mondays have: naps.

1. SNACKS!
I know what you're thinking, "oh, I'll just buy those later when I get there". Yea, you could, but if you're going away to college they may not have your favorite snacks there. Or you may not realize just how expensive groceries cost yet and you'll wonder why you didn't pick them up when mom and dad may have still helped you with the cost. Either way, it's good to just have them ahead of time!
2. Extension Chords / Charging Strips
GiphyThat favorite lamp that you always dreamed of putting on your desk may not reach the plugin that's in the middle of the room. Not to mention you may only have two plugins that you are allowed to use in order to share with your roommate. By the time you plug in your phone, your computer, that cute lamp, the other floor lamp you brought, your fridge, your coffee maker, your cute little Christmas lights that you just had to have from Target...well shoot... You've used every plugin in your room and then some
3. Decorations from Home
GiphyYou're SO READY to move out of your parent's house and go to college, but believe me, at some point, it'll hit you and you'll miss home, even just a little. So bring some decorations with you to help! It may be a quilt your grandma made, a picture a friend painted for you, pictures with all your friends, maybe even your senior year yearbook, etc. Whatever it may be, you don't have to feel ashamed about bringing things with you from your hometown that you were so desperate to get out of.
4. Shower Shoes
If you have community bathrooms this is ESSENTIAL! You do not want to go to the doctor within the first month because you've gotten some nasty fungus. Go ahead, play it safe, and buy them now.
5. Bathrobe
GiphyWhether you have community bathrooms or your own, there will be a day that you forget to bring clothes with you to the bathroom. I almost guarantee that will be the day that your roommate has her/his boyfriend/girlfriend there and you will be too embarrassed to go out, naked, to change. You may not need it every time you shower, but trust me, one day you will.
6. Medicine
This one really got me. I didn't pack it. I went two months without needing it and then BAM I got the flu. By that time I was WAY too sick to get myself out of bed and go to Walgreens. Don't rely on your roommate being nice enough to go get your medication, as mine thankfully did. Not to mention, only you know which brand you like so just go get it now and save it for a raining day. This includes nasal spray, Advil, mentholadum, bath salts, chapstick, etc.
7. Extra Sheets
GiphyYou'll swear that you'll clean your sheets once a month and then put them back on your bed, but you won't. You'll either not clean them at all - which is disgusting. Or you'll clean them and then never put them back on your bed - also kinda gross. If you have extras it is easier to rip a pair off, put them in the washer, put the new ones on, and then just fold the clean ones and put them in your closet.
8. Blister Band-aids
GiphyWIth walking around campus all the time you are bound to get blisters at some point, but that doesn't mean you can just stop walking. These band-aids help cushion the tender area and medicate it while still allowing you to walk. It may just be the best thing ever invented.
9. Headphones
At some point, you'll need to escape the world for a moment and listen to some music without annoying your new roommate and hopefully one day best friend. Headphones can be a great way to help you study, ignore the other conversations in the room, block out snoring, excite your walk to class, or motivate you at the gym. They're so easy to leave behind and a good pair will cost a lot more than you're expecting them to.
10. A Winter Coat and A Pair of Shorts
GiphyIf you have multiple, you only need to bring one. You can even store it under your bed until you're ready to use it. Especially if your college is in the Mid-West, you will need a winter coat before you think you do. The bad part is, it may snow one day and then be 85 the next week so you need to be prepared for both!

At first this was quite funny to think of myself as a little tree creature, but in fact, being the Baby Groot of your friend group is a true honor. There is honestly nobody else who could replace you and the friend group would never be the same without you.
While of course, Peter is a cool dude with lots of cool moments, Baby Groot is a scene stealer. He's the glue that holds them all together. The Switzerland of characters. There is truly no other greater character in the movie besides Baby Groot. There is truly no other greater Marvel superhero.
If you are the Baby Groot of your friend group, you should embrace your power... or lack of it at times. You are the most adorable little tree creature your friend group will ever see.
You know you're the Baby Groot of your friend group if...
1. You're most likely the youngest and/or smallest one of the group.
2. Which means your friends can get pretty protective over you most of the time.
3. That doesn't mean you can't fight your own battles when you need to. Especially when it comes to defending your friends.
4. You're never in the middle of the group drama. You're a neutral player.
5. In fact, you are traditionally the peacekeeper and the problem-solver.
6. You're the first person to find the good in any situation.
7. But also, you're the one most likely to call it a night before the others.
8. There's a special quirkiness about you that only your friends understand and appreciate.
9. You're always ready to help your friends when they need you!
10. Although sometimes it can get you into trouble...
11. Which means your friends typically try to have you avoid anything that could lead you down the wrong path. (This is where #2 comes back into play)
12. But you don't typically listen to them because you are a strong independent tree creature who can handle themselves.
13. But your friends are always ready to take care of you when you need them and sometimes you really need them.
14. And at the end of the day, as strange as you may be at times, your friends are stranger. And that's what makes you all friends!
15. And you would do anything for your friend group because you love them.
15. Almost as much as you love music. And dancing. Especially dancing.
