'Adam Ruins Everything' Is Finally The TV Show That’s Worth Your Time
If you're into non-fiction this is for you
I have been watching reruns of "Adam Ruins Everything," a TV series that cleverly uses comedy to disprove common misconceptions in society, that most of us take for granted. It's well produced with a way that grabs your attention and keeps you interested so you don't get bored quickly.
It's not a reality show, but it's a real show. I'm really into non-fiction, but I think there's something in it for everyone. Even though reality TV is supposed to give you a "real" experience, it's now way to scripted that it's more of a sitcom, in my opinion. There's nothing wrong with that if that's what you want to watch, but if you're looking for something that's real and lighthearted then this is the perfect show. A quick warning though, it will disprove a lot of what you think or were told was facts.
The show's host, Adam Conover, is an "investigative comedian," according to the host channel TruTV. His way of mixing comedy with facts and information makes it easier to understand and follow. It's also to the point, so you don't feel like you wasted your time watching. This should be the new wave in journalism if you want to get millennial's on board.
I was very surprised, in fact, shocked, by the facts that were revealed in the show. After learning all this I feel like we're living in a virtual world where only half of what we think we know is real. And this doesn't even include anything in the realm of actual science fiction.
In every episode, he brings in experts on the topic he's discussing and really seems to present a fair and balanced perspective. This requires a lot of research and actual journalism work. Now I get why he's dubbed an "investigative comedian."
I won't tell you about the things that were revealed in the show, because I don't want to ruin it for you if you want to watch it. But I was really mind blown by some of the misconceptions which got debunked and of how easy it is to string everyone along on a myth. I found myself trying to find things to prove that the myth was real. This shows how much many of these misconceptions have gotten into our psyche that we find it difficult to let go of them.
One interesting fact that can be concluded from one of the themes in several of the shows is how much influence corporations have on our society. It's not just economic, but a lot of things we consider facts in society, which are actually myths, were started by corporations.
Sometimes knowing the reality makes you upset or sad, but I'm not disappointed by knowing the truth. I think society benefits if everyone is more intelligent about things, and questions things before believing them. We don't need to turn into skeptics, but we just need to confirm what we're told.
Knowledge also gives us the power to change things if we want, or at least learn from our past mistakes.
I encourage you to watch it and see for yourself. Maybe leave a comment on what you think about it.
