5 Political Commercials from Super Bowl 2017

2017 has already seen divisiveness in the United States, especially when it comes to political and social issues. Those who decided to advertise during the Super Bowl took notice. Several commercials during this year's Super Bowl addressed such issues.

1. Budweiser, "Born the Hard Way"

Immigration and racism have both been key issues in our nation this year. This commercial tells the story of someone who immigrates to America in hopes of creating a beer company. He is met with comments like "You're not wanted here," which continue to be spewed at immigrants. The character finally finds love and acceptance and gets to create one of the most popular beers in the nation.

2. Airbnb, "We Accept"

This commercial addresses so many issues that have some up in the country lately. From religious discrimination to homophobia, this commercial raises some key issues. Airbnb goes on to say that no matter who you are, etc., you belong. Many across America can relate to the need of this commercial.

3. Audi, "Daughter"

Equal pay for men and women of equal talent and experience is still an issue in the United States. It is one that is not as commonly addressed as some of the other issues brought up by other commercials, which is why this is so important. Audi is taking initiative to have equal pay for men and women.

4. Turkish Airlines, Morgan Freeman commercial

While this commercial is not as direct as the other commercials, it still talks about issues regarding xenophobia. Instead of merely pointing out that people from other countries are feared and hated, it offers a solution. It states that love and acceptance will come when people explore worlds that are different from their own.

5. Kia, Melissa McCarthy commercial

This commercial directly combats the issue of climate change and a deteriorating environment. It shows a celebrity taking action, which often incites "ordinary" people to want to take action. However, the actions in the commercial are dangerous. The commercial ends with a solution: drive Kia's energy-efficient car to help the planet.

beer on the beach

Summer is hot and humid, and it's almost like summer was made specifically to drink the refreshing, cold, crisp wonderful, delicious, nutritious nectar of the gods. Bruce Springsteen's Top 7 Lyrics

Everything Bruce says in his classic rock songs.

20165
bruce springsteen album cover born in the usa

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

4646
Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

You cannot beat the beach. Believe it or not (which many people may not), New England has a long and beautiful coastline. Most of my high school summers were spent sitting on the Wall at Hampton Beach, getting sunburnt and eating Acai bowls from The Secret Spot. The Wall was the place to be both during the day and at night. We begin our days there with a KB's bagel and coffee, and end them with pizza and ice cream. It’s not a New England summer without that 4 p.m. text from someone, “Who wants to meet at the Wall tonight?” Nighttime is for Tripoli’s Pizza, the sound of waves, and wishes on shooting stars. Wednesday nights are especially important, as those are the nights that Hampton Beach sets off the weekly firework display.
