From Billy Ray, to Miley, and now Noah, the public can always expect one thing from the Cyrus family: music. Well, that, and interesting hairstyles. For those of you who weren't aware:
So both of those hairstyles were a thing, folks.
In all seriousness, Noah Cyrus has released a promising new single entitled Make Me (Cry) [feat. Labrinth]. The song talks about the reliance that Noah, or anyone, can have for another person when involved in a committed relationship. The relationship that is referenced in the song is not working out because the hook of the song says, "Cause all you ever do is make me cry". Noah and Labrinth sing about how much they need someone, who also makes them feel sad or disappointed at the same time. The contradicting cleverness of the hook, along with the possibly-relatable truth that accompanies the lyrics make for a pretty emotional song for 16-year-old Cyrus's debut as a young female artist.
Labrinth is a great asset to this track because he brings a certain depth and authority with his voice that adds to Noah's already-solid vocals. I am always a fan of combining male and female vocals on songs like this because the effect adds another layer to the song; this is exactly what Labrinth brought to this track. There are certain parts in this song where I feel haunted slightly because Noah's voice can sound extremely similar to Miley's. However, I think Noah set herself apart from her sister by producing a more modern, alternative pop song. I will be interested to hear what Noah sounds like without a featuring artists, because Labrinth brought a lot of experience and soul to this track.
Make Me (Cry) [feat. Labrinth] is not groundbreaking or extraordinary in any way. It's good, and it does seem to be a step in the right direction for the youngest Cyrus to hit the music scene since Hannah Montana ;)
