Sometimes the holiday season is just overwhelming. There’s so much to do in what feels like such a little time. Maybe you’re separated from your friends and loved ones for the month, and you just can’t get yourself to cheer up. Maybe it’s just one of those days. Everyone’s had them.
So how do you get yourself out of the rut? How do you prevent yourself from turning into a Grinch? There’s so many ways to make yourself feel better, you just have to know what it is you want to do. Are you looking for something to make you laugh? Or do you want to feel elated, to have your faith in humanity restored? There’s plenty of all of that.
Let’s start with the basics. You just need a little pick me up, a tiny dose of ‘awh!’ Where do we start? Cat pictures of course!
- This photo set is one of my favorites. This little guy is experiencing the snow for the first time.
Just look how cute this is. Those facial expressions. That last one speaks to me. I can’t not smile while looking at this. - This video of a part in "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"
I don’t know what it is about this video that gets me every time. Maybe it’s Colin’s ability to just continue as if nothing’s wrong while Ryan is trying very hard to contain himself. Maybe it’s just Ryan wheezing while saying, “Why don’t you tell the people about it?” The Ryan and Colin Bromance is one for the ages, that’s for sure. - This compilation of Russian dashcam videos.
Maybe the reason you’re feeling down is because of how horrible the news makes humanity out to be. This video makes me happy to know that there’s still people out there who will stop and help a little old lady across a busy road. The song, "Arrival of the Birds / Transformation" by The Cinematic Orchestra, is also very euphoric. - The fact that munchkin cats exist.
Just look at this cat. - Singing an old song as loud as you can.
Remember that song you used to listen to every day in 7th grade? The one we all claimed to be our jam at one point? Find it, blare it, sing it. Dance stupid, while you’re at it. - Any video staring The Try Guys by Buzzfeed.
Last night, I watched so many Buzzfeed videos that I got a neck cramp from laughing. My favorite series is the “The Try Guys Try Motherhood.” Oh, it’s glorious.
Of course there are so many more ways to cheer yourself, but think of this as a starter kick. These almost always work for me, so hopefully they work for you as well. Grab one of those comfy blankets of yours, make some hot chocolate. Use the holidays/vacation time to relax and recuperate. Watch some Netflix. You got this. Embrace your inner Bobby McFerrin: don’t worry, be happy.
