For many college students, Thanksgiving is the first long break they've had all semester. They get to come home and see their families and not think about school for a long weekend. But, inevitably, your family loves you and wants to know how your semester is going. So, forget the home cooked meals and be prepared to answer numerous questions that solely revolve around you. Your family means well and they do love you, but it can sometimes feel like your life is being put under a microscope. Here are 12 questions every college kid will hear this Thanksgiving.

1. How is school going?

(In my head) School is tough. I'm always sick and I feel like I'm dying. (My answer) It's great, I really love it. It's a tough semester but it's going well.

This one is probably the most common question college students hear. College is hard, fun, and draining all at the same time. Being home for a long weekend is like the nicest vacation I've ever been on.

2. How are you doing?

I'm tired, poor, and always hungry/needing coffee ... but, I truly love the university I'm at so it makes for a confusing answer.

3. How many credits are you taking?

Too many ... that's how many.

4. Are you ready for finals?

Ummm, no unfortunately not. I have too many to count, and I have no idea what I'm doing at this point in the semester. I'm just so tired I can't function properly right.

5. What are your plans for next year?

Hopefully graduating? I have no idea and haven't been able to think that far. It's super stressful to try and figure out what you're doing a day in advance let alone a year.

6. What are you doing after college?

See number five. I truly wish I knew but I don't at the moment. I'm not sure of anything anymore.

7. Are you partying a lot?

I wish. Freshman year was so much easier and now I really have to focus and work which means no fun for me.

8. What's your favorite course this semester?

I do enjoy this question. We all have one class that really challenges us and makes us think in new ways that we hadn't before.

9. Are you excited about Christmas Break?

Heck yes, I am! I get to not think about school for a month and just enjoy the holidays and new year with the people I love.

10. Are you working hard or hardly working?

Working harder than ever. Eating mashed potatoes is the most fun I've had all of November.

11. How is your job?

It lets me eat so I like it. It also is a great motivator to stay in school.

12. Are you happy to be home?

I get to see my family and my dog!!! I'm super happy to be home, I just don't want to go back to school and face the impending doom finals week is going to bring to me.

I am thankful for so much this year, and even though I wish I wasn't asked 5 bajillion questions, getting to eat good food, taking a break from college, and getting to cuddle with my dog makes me so incredibly happy. So, bring on the questions because I couldn't be happier to see my family and enjoy a day to reflect on the good in my life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
