If I had to pick a favorite female artist, it would be Sara Bareilles. No contest. She’s everything one could ever aspire to be in a musician. I love how she’s just herself: she doesn’t worry about what other musicians are doing or saying. She’s soulfully, beautifully her own person. She writes and performs music in such a pure way, one can’t help but be inspired. So because her and her music have touched my life in such a real way, and because people don't know much of her, here are 11 reasons why Sara Bareilles is completely underrated:
1) She wrote a book
And it’s a fantastic book. She doesn’t hold back in it. She gives the stories and experiences behind her music in such a genuine way that you feel like you know her personally- and that’s a hard thing to do as a writer.
2) She produced a musical
Even Though it was an apparently stressful process, her show made it to Broadway. How cool is that?
3) She's real and relatable
And weird, but come on, be honest, who doesn't get their necklaces tangled, or make up and sing random songs about menial tasks?
4) She's independent and strong
She ain't gon' write you a love song if she don't want to write you a love song.
5) She writes with sincerity and meaning, with passion and, often, humor
Listen to her songs and you'll easily hear how she writes from her heart.
6) She's hilarious
She has recently been on Snapchat, where she often posts videos as her alter-ego, Kathy, the barista.
7) She composes her own songs
This is huge for an artist. There really aren't many female artists out there who are this talented AND write and compose all their own songs.
8) She plays numerous musical instruments
Here is her wonderful cover of Chandelier in which she so beautifully plays the ukulele, but if you listen to her other songs, you'll also hear her play the piano, the acoustic guitar, and the bass as well.
9) She has the voice of an angel
She wrote that when she was 19........ Just let that sink in.
10) She's beautiful
AND she's got a great personality. Come on, total package.
11) She's inspirational
If that didn't touch the inner depths of your soul... well, you probably don't have one.
