Nick Jonas set fire to a house in his new, emotional “Chainsaw” music video. The song is his latest single on his album new, Last Year Was Complicated which will be released June 10.
"In a couple hours my most personal song I've ever written will be released," Jonas tweeted prior to unveiling the clip. "Hopefully my vulnerability speaks to you."
The video stars model, Sara Sampaio, who we can’t help but notice has similar features to Jonas’s ex-girlfriend, Olivia Culpo. It also can’t be missed that the lyrics outline an epic heartbreak and the end of an adult relationship. All around, the video has created the perfect break-up video, complete with flames and broken glass.
"Collaborating with [director] Luke Monaghan was really special as this is an incredibly personal song and the performance in the video had to represent that," Jonas said of creating the clip in an interview with Vogue. "Also, getting to work with my close friend Sara Sampaio was amazing. Not only is she gorgeous, but her acting skills were definitely on display in her performance."
We see a great deal of maturity in Nick Jonas in this video, which we cannot help but appreciate how refreshing it is. The Jonas brother has obviously come a long way since his boy band days.
The video starts out with scenic green views of rolling mountains before Jonas is featured in the home that apparently is crawling with good and bad memories of his relationship with Sampio. The first memories show the couple happy, playfully playing the piano before the video quickly escalates with Jonas throwing plates to correlate to the lyrics, “I'm gonna break out all the china, Cause it's just one more reminder you're gone, you're gone.”
The couple’s romantic getaway appears to take a nasty turn when a fight ensues leaving Jonas alone in the home.
Each scene of the video builds up the tension with not only the couple but the way Jonas handles the breakup. The video will leave you wanted to torch your ex’s house, but remember there are far better ways to handle a breakup!
So hat’s off to you Nick, you’ve created a video that is raw, filled with emotion and one that is far too relatable to all those with a broken heart.
