I grew up in a typical, Midwestern, rural town, in a Catholic family with five kids. I went to a small high school, where I spent my days taking AP classes, getting involved in every club, and being a control freak in general. My do-it-all attitude and nerdy personality led me to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, a small science, engineering, and technology school in my home state, Indiana. Here at Rose, I am a biochemistry major, also pursuing a minor in biology and attempting to complete premedical studies. After finishing my undergrad education, I hope to attend medical school and pursue a dual MD/PhD degree. I plan on studying radiology and nuclear medicine, specifically neuro nuclear medicine. I hope to do my own research, to explore and perfect methods for diagnosis and treatment processes in neurological disorders. But, that’s a long way off. For now, I’m just trying my best to get through Rose-Hulman without exploding. My freshman year here, I went through some huge life changes, as I got my first D on a test, lived away from home for the first time, and lost my sister in a car accident. I’ve never been good at handling stress or dealing with things I can’t control. But I’ve learned so much about finding peace within myself, and letting go of negativity. To relieve some of the stress, I am on Rose’s track and cross country teams. I love long distance running. My other hobbies include fishing, painting, and reading. Whatever I’m doing, I believe in devoting myself wholeheartedly to being the best I can be. I believe that with passion and hard work, anything is possible! I am on a journey to find happiness by doing everything I can to make negative situations into positive ones, and accept those which I cannot control (which is very hard for me!). I want to write for The Odyssey because I want to share my unique experience with others. I hope that maybe my writing and experiences can inspire, provide comfort, share advice, cause laughter, or bring any type of happiness to those who read my writing.
