It is spring, technically even though the weather has not received the message yet, and my favorite part is definitely refreshing my space. Last night I decided to watch one episode of "Tidying Up with Marie Kondo" while eating my dinner. Yes, I am super late on this, but I finally got a second to watch something other than a TED talk for class. In the middle of the episode, I put down my sweet potato fry and started ripping apart my closet.
Ask my roommate and she will tell you I am already pretty neat. I think an organized space is one conducive to productivity. Even so, every week I try to tidy up my area because I finally get a chance to do so.
The episode taught me how to fold my clothes better. I literally cut down the space I needed for the clothes in my drawer. They were once overflowing and now I feel like I have room for a little shopping spree. I also found that it was way easier to sort through and see the clothes I have. Even my underwear drawer is neat, and I thought that was not a practical goal because it is so hard to organize and maintain.
In a dorm, it is so easy to feel trapped by clutter because the living space is rather small and often shared by one to multiple people. I share a room with one other person and if I just let my stuff explode all over the place, we would both be drowning in laundry. Minimizing the width that my clothes take not only makes it easier on me to fit all of my stuff but is aesthetically pleasing. I literally feel refreshed when I see how nicely my stuff is laid out.
One thing from the episode that I did not implement was the use of small stacking boxes. I somewhat feel that having all these extra boxes make it kind of easier to shove things in because you can justify it by saying it is "organized" in its own little place. I like to have specific drawers for things in general. I have tried the bin thing and it does not work as well as I thought.
With my clothes done, I am looking forward to watching episode two and moving onto the next step: my books.
