"I'm a semi functioning human, but I've done pretty well so far"- Dodie Clark
Dodie Clark is an English singer-songwriter, author, and Youtuber. Her main channel, doddleoddle, was created in 2011 and she has grown tremendously since then. She also has a second channel doddlevloggle and a VEVO channel called dodieVEVO. Her channels consist mostly of covers of songs or her own original songs and vlogs. Since writing her own songs and featuring them on her channel, she has created three EP's. Her first EP is called Intertwined, the second is called You, and the third, which recently came out, is called Human. I don't recall when or how I discovered her, but I do know that I have been watching her channel for a while. Despite her growth, since I first started watching her, I believe that she deserves more recognition.
You can only learn so much about a person if they are a Youtuber and you don't even know if what they are putting out there is even the real them; however, Dodie did write a book called " Secrets for the Mad: Obsessions, Confessions and Life Lessons ," which I own and read. It gives you some insight into her life and the things that she has been through. It also features personal pictures and lyrics of her songs. I know that while reading her book, it taught me certain things about life, friendship, and family. She taught me that what we go through in life are lessons and that those lessons can make us stronger. From what I gather from watching her on YouTube and reading her book, she has gone through so much and has made it out on the other side. She has a bright personality and an interesting outlook on life. The experiences that she has been through makes her a relatable role model for so many and it just makes me wonder why she isn't as well known as she should be.
Not only does she seem like a fun loving person, but she also makes amazing music! She is so talented that it baffles me sometimes. I can't even count how many times her lyrics have spoken to me. There have been quite a few of her songs that just feel like they were speaking directly at me. They made me feel like I wasn't as alone. It reminded me that I am not the only one that feels a certain way about something. Her song touches upon subjects that I think can help many people. The ways music impacts our mood is one of the main reasons people love listening to it! Not only can upbeat songs create a positive mood or how a slow song can help calm us down, but the lyrics also have a great effect. It provides a sort of comfort in my opinion. Dodie's music has been that comfort for me and I just wish that everyone could hear it. In my opinion, she is an underrated artist who deserves so much attention and praise on her astounding music.
When it comes to music, everyone has their own personal preferences so obviously everyone may not enjoy hers. But I still encourage you to check her out and then make up your minds about her. People always have a way of teaching you something, you just have to pay attention. It can be easy to forget how much of an impact public figures can have, so it's important that you be careful with who you pick to look up to.
