Spotlight Artist: Julia Cole

Julia Cole, a small town Texas girl who got her start by singing the national anthem before her basketball and volleyball games has since become the girl who is changing the sound of country music. Her music is fun, catchy and completely relatable to college students everywhere.

Her newest hit single "#GetAwesome" is something that every teenager, college student and even adults who have their life together but still like to get drunk, can relate to. The songs tells about adventures while, not getting drunk, but getting aswesome. Which is something I think we all like to believe that we do. She sings about adventures through Costa Rica, studying abroad and zip lining. You can find her lyric video here:

"Turn Down the Sun" is a song about a feeling we all know too well, the morning after a big party. She tells the tales of the pregame that gets a little bit too wild and all you really want is the sun to shine a little less so you can lay in bed all day. I think anyone who has ever experienced a hangover can totally relate to this feeling and not to mention, it's a fun, upbeat song that would make the perfect song for a car ride with the windows down or a great addition to your pregame playlist. Check out her lyric video here:

One of her other most popular songs, "Wicked Ways," tells the story of that girl. You know, the girls that wants your boy and acts like y'all are besties, but she really just has eyes for your guy. A lot of us know a girl like this and this song is something every girl can sing at the top of her lungs, especially if you have been in this situation before.

Julia has a perfect mix of talent, spunk and relatability that makes her music fun to listen to and sing along with. Her music can be found on Spotify and also on her Facebook page. Just search "Julia Cole." At only 22 years old, she's not only making great music, but going out there and following her dreams, which is something all of us can respect and relate to. Check out Julia Cole for country music with a KICK!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
