Caroline Glaser was a contestant on the hit TV singing competition "The Voice" back in 2013. While she did not win, she has most definitely not left the music scene. With the release of her first official album this morning, Glaser proves she is deserving and ready to take over the singer/songwriter genre.
The album starts off with "I Hate That Part," a testimony to those who left everything they consider "home" in order to chase their dreams. "Cause I was born to roam this earth, to finish what I started, with a song in my heart, but I miss my home, my mother, my father and my brother, oh I hate that part." Glaser expertly relates her personal plight to others sacrificing family for their goals.
"Wishing Well" is incredibly emotionally driven and striking with sensory images. Glaser sings, "There's a way out of here, I gotta find a way out of here some way some how" over and over again, reaching a level of emotional urgency that can be felt through even the lowest quality of headphones.
While the second track, "Drive," is a slow ballad about a relationship that keeps "going in circles," the seventh track, "Wolves," is high-paced and drum-driven. The song highlights Glaser's multi-faceted voice as she expertly transitions into the high notes of the song. While Glaser typically sings with a very soft voice, she did not hold back with "Wolves" and shows just how strong her voice can be.
The album ends with a live version of "Rosalee," which is a great song to round out the album, as its soft tones act as a lovely lullaby.
As a whole, Caroline Glaser's self-titled album holds its own against albums by more seasoned artists, and joins the long list of successful "Voice" contestants.
