I recently fulfilled a dream of mine when I saw Ellie Goulding in concert. She has been my favorite artist since my brother first introduced me to her in 2011. Her lyrics are unique and her sound is flawless.
So in honor of her recent success on tour, I have pulled some lyrics to apply to the hard days we all have at some point in our life.
"Dark times, you can always find the bright side, I'm amazed by the things that you would sacrifice just to be there for me."
It is so important that we surround ourselves with people that can find the good in a situation when we cannot. Someone who will make sacrifices to be there for us is someone that we should never let go of.
"I've always had a thing for silence, but lately I just need a voice I recognize, it's a perfect time to scream it out."
This is Ellie's favorite set of lyrics from her album Delirium. When asked why, she tells us that it was written during a time in her life where she needed to recognize that she was not OK by communicating it to others so that they can work through it.
" Happy, in rain or thunder, I keep on, I keep on, I just keep on dancing."
In tough situations we must be able to keep our chin up and dance it out, knowing that it will get better.
"Somebody somewhere driving in their car is crying out. Forever running from the truth, sometimes all we have is doubt."
These words are ones that we do not always want to hear. It is easy to run from the truth and lie to ourselves about it. It happens to us all, but we have to fight this, together.
"There's so much to lose, but so much to learn."
In life, we will make mistakes, but we can learn from them. Because of this, we should never be afraid of making mistakes, but keep on living so that we can keep learning.
