With 33 releases under their belt from 1986 to 2012, Green Day is one of the most successful bands to ever grace the planet. While the lineup has changed over the years, founders Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt alongside drummer Tré Cool (since 1990) and lead guitarist Jason White (since 2012) have announced a new album due to be released in the autumn of 2016. Speculation began earlier this year, when frontman Billie Joe Armstrong shared a photo of him in the studio to his Instagram followed by a tweet in which he claimed his mission for 2026 was to "destroy the phrase 'pop-punk'" forever. Green Day certainly isn't a stranger to musical revolutions; just look at the 2004 release of "American Idiot." The rumors of a new album were confirmed by their publicist, Brian Bumbery, who told Newsweek that the group is working on their 12th studio album. While the date for the release isn't yet certain, here are seven reasons to get excited for the newest album:
1. We've been aching for more music since their Christmas release.
Don't act like this wasn't your holiday jam.
2. Maybe we can get another Broadway play?
For all the punk kids out there, this was the best Broadway production to ever meet the stage.
3. We'll probably get more guyliner.
Nothing more needs to be said.
4. The band is living proof that you can be old and cool.
With White at 42, Cool at 43, and Armstrong and Dirnt at 44, these guys are ageless and their music is priceless.
5. More concerts!
You're lying if you think this doesn't look like the Time Of Your Life. (see what I did there?)
6. Another musical revolution.
Look at these. Just look at them.
7. It's Green Day, of course you should be excited!
Get ready, Idiots. It's time.
