We Should Seek To Be Worth Knowing, Rather Than Well-Known
I believe that it is much greater to be a person worth-knowing to a close group of people who truly know who you are than it is to be well-known by thousands of people who don't know the real you.
I think that a lot of us go through life trying to make ourselves known, myself included. We strive to make a name for ourselves and glorify the moments in which our actions receive attention. It's been ingrained in us since we were young that we need to make an impact. We need to find our passion, pursue this passion, and never stop. But, what if we were worth-knowing simply because of the person that we are?
If we are constantly seeking validation from outside sources, we will never be true to ourselves. We will be constantly seeking to please others. We will hold the opinions of others to the highest standard. We will feel unworthy if others do not pay attention to our efforts. It is better to find your peace within yourself. Learn that your talents are always there, regardless of whether or not others can see them.
I believe that by being a person worth-knowing, we will undoubtedly become well-known. It is almost a cause-and-effect if you can think of it in that manner. When you are a person who is worth-knowing, you are true to yourself. You understand your flaws and imperfections. You are aware of your strengths and authentic power. Most importantly, you understand how both your flaws and skills interact to create you. You use this knowledge to your advantage. It is only when we understand ourselves fully that we can go out and impact the lives of those around us.
To become a person worth-knowing we must first realize that we are enough. We are enough simply because of who we are. Our worth is not defined by how many activities we are involved in. It is not defined by how many jobs we have or the leadership positions we hold. Although everything we do may add to the person that we are, we will always be enough regardless of the things we do.
It is hard to come to the realization that we are worth-knowing even if we don't do everything. Seek to be a person known for kindness, acceptance, and empathy. Be the person that strangers gravitate towards. Be the person that others come to for advice during their struggles. If you live in such a way, you will undoubtedly be adding value to the lives of those around you, even if you are not necessarily "well-known."
We should strive first to impact the close circle of people around us and then expand our impact outside of those confines. It is always said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. What we often forget is that we are part of that five. We greatly impact the circle of people that are closest to us on a daily basis. When we treat these people with the utmost kindness, grace, and compassion, we are already a person who is worth knowing.
I believe that it is much greater to be a person worth-knowing to a close group of people who truly know who you are than it is to be well-known by thousands of people who don't know the real you.
