Poetry On Odyssey: Pretty, Smart Girl
A poem for the girl who made her choice.
She is a pretty, smart girl.
She devotes her days to using
the flick of a wrist,
the way she blinks,
the tone of her voice
to get what she wants.
She knows she is beautiful and
makes sure others notice her presence.
Manipulation is her method of operation.
She knows anyone who recognizes what she's doing
will fall silent when it comes time to prosecute.
She uses her words, her time,
her body
as tools,
as weapons.
She is ever-aware of her image in the eyes of others,
but what she doesn't know
is that she was a
pretty smart girl.
She could have enjoyed the presence of others.
She could have laughed and smiled and joked and meant it.
She could have been beautiful inside and out.
She could have found someone to appreciate
her words, her time, her body
as she truly would have deserved.
She was a pretty smart girl.
But instead,
she chose to be a pretty, smart girl.
