Everyone Needs To Sign Up For A Free YouTube Premium Trial To Watch Jay Park's Bio Series, 'Chosen1'
Asian artists deserve to have the big breakthrough, just like everyone else.
On April 24, YouTube released a trailer for a new series they're doing titled Chosen1. This series will follow the career of the famous, Korean rapper and CEO, Jay Park. You're probably wondering why you should care about this. And there's a good reason.
Jay Park is a Korean-American with endless talents. He's especially famous in Korea for his rapping, singing, and dancing. He also is the CEO of two record labels and is signed to Jay-Z's record label, Roc Nation. Jay is the first Korean-American to be signed to Roc Nation. He's actually probably the first Korean-American to have success in the rap/hip-hop genre.
The docu-series is described to be a series where we follow Jay Park and his 10-year career as a musician. However, while doing so, we will get to analyze why his career has panned out the way it has thus far. There will be a discussion about his time as a k-pop star and his societal exile. The series will go deeper to discover why Korean-American artists, thus far, haven't had much success within the music industry in America.
I think it's going to be something important for everyone to watch because of the conversation it will spark. Asian-American artists are typically ignored in the media, spare for a few exceptions. However, tons of American artists like to incorporate Asian themes within their own art. As of late, so many rappers are including Asian themes within their music. From Migos to Nicki Minaj, Famous Dex, Post Malone, and countless others. Why is it that these people want to use the culture of Asian Americans to further their career, yet they don't invest time into the people that created the culture in the first place? I believe by delving into Jay Park's career, we may get to see things from a new point of view to understand why Asian-American's don't have the same success as their culture.
You can watch the docu-series on YouTube premium starting May 1st, so be sure not to miss it.
