Charleston 40 Is What Brought Me To C Of C, Now It's My Turn To Invite You
I got offered a College of Charleston tour guide position, and here's how it has impacted me.
First off, you should probably know that I love people (working with them, that is). I love being in positions of leadership, and I love helping people out with things they might need. But before I really got into any of that in College, I knew I wanted to be a tour guide for so long.
When I applied to CofC, I was already dead-set on another college, I was so excited about it and CofC was just another college in a town that I loved.
When I came down for accepted students weekend, all that changed for me. I went to panels and I talked to the tour guides. Those people made me feel like I belonged on the campus, and that it was somewhere I could thrive. The tour guides and professors made CofC a destination, and not just a pretty place. After talking to so many people who were so passionate about the college, it had an impact on me.
When I got in the car to go home, I told my moms to put down a housing deposit and accept my spot.
There hasn't been a day that's gone by that I've regretted that decision. As a tour guide now, I hope to impact someone else that way. This school has taught me and given me so much in a short period of time, and I'd like to convey that to others. I know how stressful choosing your future can be, and it seems so daunting. But that the end of the day, I've realized that it isn't so much what your major is, but that you will feel secure in where and who you are. I've always felt that way, and I hope all the kids coming here will too.
So maybe, just maybe, I can aspire someone to make the same, great decision I did.
