No, we did not ride tractors to school, live in double-wide trailers and plow our crops for an extra-curricular activity. While there are many misconceptions about the South, I am proud to have "grown up Southern." There is nothing quite like growing up in its atmosphere, and I appreciate it more as I get older. Here are 13 life lessons that growing up Southern taught me:
1. Boys should open the door for girls, always.
2. It is always "y'all," never "you all."
3. The sweeter the iced tea, the better.
4. Church on Sunday is not optional.
5. The ultimate meal is fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and cornbread.
6. Sundays are for looking your best.
7. Saying "Yes, ma'am" and "No, sir" is not optional.
8. Monograms are everywhere.
9. The weather is bipolar.
10. Country music is always playing.
11. SEC football is life.
12. The bigger the hair, the closer to God.
13. Butter makes everything better.
