13 Things We Forgot We Did During The Fall As Kids

Let's bring back the fun fall activities we did when we were kids.

13 Things We Forgot We Did During The Fall As Kids

Being in college, I never take the time to remember things that I used to do during the Fall. When I was younger, there were so many different activities that I would get so excited for when the leaves started changing and the weather got cooler. Being from up North, we take Fall pretty seriously and I mean how can you not when it's such a beautiful time there. Now that I'm down South, I tend to forget that it's even fall at all. The temperatures are in the 80s and 90s in mid October, the leaves barely change from their green tints, and I have all the studying in the world to keep me from remembering the activities that I used to love taking part in with my family and friends.

1. Apple picking

The task of finding the best apples on the trees and taste testing even more than you take home.

2. Baking with the apples you picked

What's better than an apple cobbler or apple pie on a cool Fall night with some apple cider? Literally nothing.

3. Decorating your house

When your mom brings down all of the Fall and Halloween decorations from the attic and the inside of your house looks like you just walked into an actual haunted house.

4. Raking leaves and jumping in them

This memory might be a real far back, but raking leaves in the backyard into big piles and then jumping in them with your siblings will always be something I associate with Fall.

5. Bobbing for apples

You can't tell me your neighbors never hosted that annual Halloween party where everyone bobbed for apples while decked out in their costumes.

6. Pumpkin picking

When the whole family used to go out to the pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect one to carve.

7. Carving pumpkins

Scooping out the nasty insides of the pumpkin and saving the seeds to have your mom bake before carving the perfect face for your pumpkin.

8. Booing

Ding-dong ditching your neighbors and leaving them bags of candy.

9. Haunted hay rides

Going to the corn field and getting on the wagon attached to the tractor, just to be taken through the farm and scared half to death by monsters and other people dressed up to pop out at you.

10. Watching Disney Channel Halloween movies

Snuggling up by the fireplace and watching all of the Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown movies with friends and siblings.

11. Dressing up for Halloween

Going to pick out the best costume, that was either hilarious or so scary you just couldn't pass up scaring your siblings at every chance you got.

12. Trick or Treating

Getting all of the candy you can the first time around, then switching costumes with friends and going around to the houses again to get even more.

13. Trading candy with siblings

The morning after Halloween, sitting on the floor with all of our candy sprawled out and choosing which kinds we're willing to trade with each other.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
