Layla Rawji

I believe that my background will allow me to give an interesting perspective to the community. I grew up in Prague, Czech Republic but I am of Indian origin. My ancestors left India almost a century and a half ago and immigrated to eastern and central Africa. My maternal grandparents grew up in Tanzania while my paternal grandparents grew up in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). My parents were both born and raised in Kinshasa, DRC, and moved to Prague shortly after they got married. I believe that I have an international perspective to bring to the community. Not only is my perspective international, but it is also one of a multicultural, multilingual who does not fit into the box society limits to checking off a box with her ethnicity, country of origin or citizenship. I would like to use the Odyssey platform to share my views on different topics and life experiences shaped by my own conflicting identities. I believe I could reach out to readers that share similar confusion when it comes to identifying where they are from as well as to those readers that are looking for international perspectives.
