I am cynical and optimistic, extroverted and solitary. I despise the injustice of the right and the nonsense of the left. I try very hard to understand exactly why everyone believes what they do, and I firmly believe in maintaining the essential humanity in an argument. I often feel that the swell of anger and self righteous certitude that characterize so many people on every side of debates is a tremendous danger to the function of a fair and democratic society that is made only worse by the modern function of social media, which like a primordial jungle allows only the most vicious and virulent versions of the truth to spread. I want to join Odyssey to fight that anger, to interject calm opinions that recognize their own fallibility and subjectivity.

Socrates went to the Oracle at Delphi and asked who the wisest man in Greece was. "You are, Socrates." he was stunned. "But Oracle, I know nothing!"

The Oracle smiled. "Yes, but you alone know that you know nothing."
