We all have that friend who might as well drive a minivan and drop your friends off at their classes. Although this friend can be annoying at times, you know they always have your best interest in mind, just like your own mother.

This friend comes in handy when you’re at school, hours away from your mom, and you need a mother-like figure. As soon as you’re sick, stressed, or upset because you failed an exam, your “mom” friend is the first one to comfort you and make you feel better.

1. You always carry Advil.

Headaches? Cramps? Unexpected injuries? No worries. One of the main reasons your friends keep you around is because you’re always prepared! No matter what the circumstance is, if someone is in pain, they know to come to you for relief.

2. ...and snacks.

Long days at the beach, mall, or any other hangout spot can bring about sporadic hunger. Luckily for your pals, you always have granola bars, pretzels, and maybe even a banana in your bag! Hunger pains can be rough, but when your friends have you around, they never have to worry about them!

3. ...and water!

Hydration is key! Especially to water down all the snacks you hand out! But in all seriousness, as someone who gets dehydrated very easily, having water with you at all times is something your friends should truly thank you for. If you aren’t conscious of your H2O intake, you may become dizzy or light-headed. Fortunately, as the “mom,” you ensure this never happens to anyone under your watch!

4. You take care of anyone with dietary restrictions at restaurants.

Whenever your group goes out to eat, you make sure your friends with special dietary needs have enough options on the menu. Restaurant-dining can be tough for people who have gluten-free, dairy-free, or other types of exclusive diets. As the “mom,” you make sure these friends with these dietary restrictions not only find something to eat, but you help emphasize the allergy to the waiter to ensure that there will be no cross-contamination in the kitchen.

5. You organize group hangouts.

When everyone wants to hang out but can’t decide where or when, you take charge. As the master of planning, you decide the restaurant, the meeting time, who’s driving who, and every other little detail. No one ever argues with you because your group knows you have it under control. Especially when it comes time for birthday dinners or holiday celebrations, your friends turn to you to organize gatherings, because they know how well you arrange group get-togethers.

6. You pick everyone up from nights out.

Whether you’re sick, tired, or just aren’t in the mood to go out, if you stay in, you’re bound to pick up friends later in the night. Driving around to gather your friends late at night can be tiring, but this way you make certain that they each get home safely.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
