EVERYONE is getting married, having kids, starting a career, moving on to adulthood, right? Everyone has it together, and everyone is moving forward, except you, correct? You feel like you are behind, that you’re taking to long, that you’re going to be a single dog lady your whole life while working a dead-end job because everything is going wrong, right?
Wrong.
I get on Facebook everyday, just to see pregnancy announcements or birth announcements, or engagements or weddings, from “everyone” I went to high school with. When in reality, it’s about four people that I graduated with who just happened to reach that point earlier than I did.
But in my head, it’s everyone. In my head, I’m doing something wrong. And I’m sure you can relate.
But here’s the thing: you are OK.
You aren’t getting engaged today, and maybe not in four months, but you will.
You aren’t having kids with the love of your life today, but someday you will.
You aren’t working a career right now because you’re busy waiting tables to get by while you figure shit out, but you will have a career soon.
Stop comparing yourself to those who reached these milestones before you did because there is no need to rush to the finish line, darling. Because the finish line is a specific distance, a distance that’s been mapped and planned, and there is no need to rush it. So remember, be happy for those who’ve reached their goal early in life and keep striving for yours. Because right now, while it seems like everyone else is doing OK, so are you.
