"How do you like Trump's ban on those countries?"
I'm asked as
My family kneels to pray
Five times a day.
"Aren't those marchers dumb?"
I'm asked as
The word feminist
Is plastered across my chest.
"Racism will always be a problem."
I'm told as
Everyone in class turns towards me
When Huck Finn says the n word.
"Wow, you're really a nerd!"
I'm told as
I do Calculus for fun
And read to ease my mind.
"Cheerleading isn't a sport."
I'm reminded as
I pick myself out from under my flyer
And wipe the blood from my nose.
"Doctors can't have tattoos."
I'm reminded as
I stare at the semicolon on my wrist
While I study for the MCAT.
"I didn't ask to be judged by you!"
I yell as I become a person of my own.
I won't be quiet.
We're not alone,
You can join me in this riot.
Isn't it a disgrace
That such a victory
Can be derived from giving people space
And having common decency?
