5 Surprises That Come With Being An Adult

Ever since I was young, I couldn't wait to become an adult and not have to live under my parents' rules. I would get so fed up with them telling me when I needed to do a chore around the house and would rather do it on my own time. I would even get an attitude when they would continue to repeat themselves. Sorry, mom!

Fast forward 5 years, I am 19 years old now a junior in college and my mom goes, "Oh you have to pay for most of your apartment stuff. You're an adult now." I was completely bewildered because it hit me that I am an official adult now.

Here are 5 things that prove you're an adult now too!

1.  Rent.

Rent is honestly something I dread to pay when I move into my first apartment in August. Although, I will get to live on my own separate from my parents, but I also have to see that chunk of money slip right out of my bank account.

2. All meals on me.

I think we all have came home from a super long day and all we can think about is the good home cooked meal waiting for us. Being an adult means no matter how tired you are after a long day, you're in charge of your meals. At least now you get to play your music as loud as you want in the kitchen!

3. I need good credit now too?

You're tired of depending on your school's bus system, and Uber, it's finally time to get your own car. First though before you can even look at a car you have to go through the process of building up your credit. You have to be smart about it of course!

4. Making your own doctor's appointments.

You're sick, no soup and now your moms telling you she's not booking you a doctor's appointment. In the back of your mind you just automatically thought your mom would always book your doctor's appointments (don't worry I did too).

5. Buying groceries or going hungry is a daily choice.

When you're at the grocery store with your parents and you can usually get anything, you want. When your grocery shopping for your own place alone you don't get everything you really want. Instead you have to shop smart and put back the $6 box of fruit snacks and get staples like meat, milk and bread.

Being an adult is super fun not going to lie because I get to be very independent. It is honestly a wakeup call because now everything your parents did for you, you have to do on your own. Here's to being adults and being independent!
