You're Allowed To Have A Heart, You Know

There will come a day that life will click.

You're Allowed To Have A Heart, You Know
Taylor Montague

2017 was obviously supposed to be everyone’s year, just like the one before, and the one before that.

But life happens. And things go bad. And yes, there will be times that rock bottom is hit with no intention or warning beforehand.

But you have to understand that there will never be a perfect year. And it’ll take a long time to find a perfect person if you ever do. So, it’s time to stop being so hard on yourself.

You are allowed to care. You are allowed to have a heart. You are allowed to feel emotion and you don’t have to pretend to be ok all the time.

For some reason, 2017 was the year that every single person experienced that one thing that changed their outlook forever. I’ve seen it personally, experienced it personally, and it’s okay for your outlook to change. However, changing your entire being, and changing the person you naturally are because of things that couldn’t be helped, is pointless.

There will come a day that life will click. Everything will make sense and these hardships and heartbreaks now, won’t matter. But getting to that point is going to be incredibly difficult.

So many people get hurt and shut off or shut down. They refuse to feel. Refuse to care. And refuse to love. But changing and becoming that heartless person will push more people away as opposed to bringing them closer.

One day someone will appreciate you. One day someone will prove to you that there is a calm after the storm and that life and love are beautiful.

Make 2018 the year of rebuilding. Love like you’ve never loved before, and trust like you can’t get your heart broken because you have nothing to lose.

Time passes faster than you can blink, and questioning the person you truly are just wastes even more.

Let this be your year.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
