A few months ago, I publicly stated in an article that Donald Trump would not stand a chance against Hillary Clinton. I was wrong.
Early this morning, Donald Trump shook the world by winning the presidency of the United States of America. He proved nearly everyone, including myself, wrong; he fought hard and won.
I was not in favor of Trump during the primaries, but when it came down to it, I rooted for him. I voted for him. I voted for the rights of unborn babies. I voted for our next Supreme Court justice. I voted for the United States of America.
Today, I saw both faces of the Democratic party as I was on campus. I was called a racist, a hick, uneducated, and an idiot because I was wearing a red shirt with an American flag on the front. There were no endorsements made by me, and I said absolutely nothing. However, this person that I have never met before felt the need to slander me, demean me, and try and make me feel worthless. However, I saw Clinton supporters crying over the results. I saw them break down. I saw the look of worry in their eyes. I did not rejoice. I was not happy at seeing their pain.
Elections are hard on everyone. Each and every election, about half of American citizens are disappointed. Hillary Clinton fought long and hard, but the American people have spoken. Our electoral process has played out. He managed to beat all the odds. He won an election in which the media slandered him. He fought without a party behind him, and he won. He had a fantastic strategic plan that no one trusted would work. But it did. Donald Trump, the underdog throughout the 2016 Presidential race, won. Love him or hate him, this is an astounding feat. He stunned the world.
This is my pledge that though I may disagree with Trump on some issues, I will stand by him. I will be called a racist, I will be called an idiot, and I will be accused of being a terrible person. That is okay. I don’t regret my vote and am excited to be a part of this great nation. I am proud to be an American. I will proudly fly the American flag, and I won’t back down.
