You’re tired, a little bit irritable, and there is so much going on around this time of the year.
From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. go to class…
Then go to work.
Then get that project and paper done.
I should probably go to the gym again...
Oh, and need to study for that big test coming up.
I need to volunteer for so-and-so,
If I stay up until two, I can still get about five hours of sleep…
But wait I forgot about that club meeting I have tomorrow too, shit.
These are just some of the thoughts I have, and many others have, every day whenever they have a little time to think or every time before going to sleep.
Making to-do lists every day just to make sure you check off every little thing on it.
It’s exhausting.It's a lot to take in.
Although grades, work, and involvements are very important. Please do not forget to take care of yourself. If you feel an anxiety attack coming on because you just looked at your to-do list, set in down and go take a little break to calm yourself. Go get a snack or talk to your roommate for five minutes. If you don’t, you could end up with an anxiety attack lasting as long as an hour and trying to get work done during an anxiety attack, just does not work. So please, take care of yourself.
If you are feeling down because your depression is creeping up on you, especially today of all days, give yourself a little break from homework. If not, you might end up in sorrows all night and that is no way to end a day, go watch a funny show for 30 minutes or go get dinner before returning to your workload.
If you are feeling like you have too much to do and not enough time to eat. Please do. Make some time during the day to grab something to go at least, or eat something small and quick before work. It’s very important for your physical and mental health to have some food in your system.
Overall, your mental health is more significant than your grades and involvement. The people that care about you would rather see you as a happy person who is still doing well than to be drowning in your work and misery. Have the motivation to do your best, but do not push yourself until you break.
If there is one thing I have learned it is that at the time, a bad grade seems like the end of the world, and it is hard not to break. So, instead of pushing yourself to your limits; when you have a slight feeling that you are upset about an assignment...step back and breathe for a second, and then keep thriving with putting your best foot forward.
