What does your media say about you? Well, in my opinion, it says a lot about you and your personality. I like to listen to music that is happy and fun. It reflects my personality because I’m generally a happy person. How about your movie choices? Well, I think that reflects your personality also. The same goes for your choice of book. After thinking about all of my media choices, I find that I, like all teens, am influenced by what I read, listen to, and watch.
Most of the teens in America own a digital media device because music is very popular among teenagers. According to appleinsider.com, 92% of teenagers in America own a digital media device. Because of the many types of music, the type of music to which you listen depends a lot on what kind of personality you have. For example, I’m generally a happy a person. So I listen to happy, “bouncy” music like Taylor Swift. Her music is generally happy and just upbeat enough to keep your foot tapping. On the other hand, if I was a gloomy person who was almost never happy, I probably wouldn’t listen to that kind of music. I would listen to music with a slow moving tempo and gloomy and glum lyrics. You personality greatly dictates your taste in music. Consequently, the same goes for movies as well.
Movies are one of the newest types of media. Where music and books are about as old as time, movies have only been around for less than a century. "With movies, you are always in search of a good story, one that everyone will relate to and love. I love finding those stories and creating a visual world to tell the story." said animator Don Bluth. Movies have a variety of genres: action, adventure, comedy, romance, animated, etc. My favorite kind of movie is action/adventure, simply because they never have a dull moment. Now if I was a ten-year-old little girl, I would probably get quite bored with an adventure movie and would rather watch a Disney movie, because of my personality. Or if I was a fifteen-year-old total girly-girl. I probably wouldn’t be thrilled with an action flick, and most likely go for the romance movie. It all depends on your personality. Since this is true for movies, the same goes for books as well.
“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” said Sir Richard Steele, a writer in the late 1600s. Reading is one of the oldest, but in my mind, best forms of media. Books are also one of the most underestimated forms of media and entertainment. Similarly to movies, there are many different types of books. Romance, adventure, historical fiction, historical non-fiction, nonfiction, biographies, autobiographies, I could go on all day. Because of their great variety, books have always been one of my favorite forms of entertaining myself, even when I was little. When I was younger, I liked books like the American Girls, Dear America, and other historical fiction books. Now I like adventurous books such as the Count of Monte Cristo and The Scarlet Pimpernel, still historical fiction, but a little bit more action filled. Your taste books, just like movies and music, depends on your personality.
From novels to movies to music your choice of media entertainment all reflect your personality. A person with a happy personality may enjoy the love story inspired music of Taylor Swift. A person who loves adventure may enjoy a movie such as The Avengers. On the other hand, a younger person may enjoy a movie like The Little Mermaid, someone who enjoys history, will most likely enjoy historical fiction and biographical books. Everyone has a different personality, that’s why everyone has his and her own tastes in music, movies, and books.
