I’m tired of hearing “They’re an X major, they don’t have anything to complain about” or “oh they’re just an X major” or “they can’t be stressed, they’re an X major!”. If you find yourself saying these things, it's time to stop.
You don’t get to decide stress levels. You don’t get to decide that your major is superior to another because you think other majors don’t require the same time as yours or have the same intensity.
College is intense, regardless of your major. Everyone faces long nights of studying and hours of work to get their degree.
I’m tired of jokes about art majors, English majors, business majors, any major that someone else has decided is a “joke” or waste of time. Let people study what they want to study. You don’t know how much work people are putting into their majors, how much studio time or writing time or project time that person is putting into their education.
We’re all in college to learn and develop. Let people explore their passions and find their life path. And if it doesn’t match with your idea of a “real” major? Keep that opinion to yourself, because who are you to decide what a “real” major is?
If you think someone’s major is a joke, imagine yourself in that major. Think elementary education is a joke? Could you balance classes, student teaching, creating lesson plans, or even just applying to an education program?
Think business majors have it easy? Try writing a business plan, learning accounting, or learning the ins and outs of business laws and ethics. Art majors have it easy? Have you ever taken 3 studio courses at once or bought art supplies?
Put yourself in the place of others before you decide they don’t deserve to be stressed. If you’re stressed in your major, chances are the person you’re judging for majoring in philosophy or English is stressed out too. College is hard enough without feeling judged for following your passions.
The world is full of so much hate, so stop contributing to it.
