Let the Big Dawg Eat

Because nothing kills my dinner vibes like not being able to pick a restaurant. Your go-to list for Athens eats.

Let the Big Dawg Eat

Nothing makes me hangrier than going out to eat with a group of people who cannot decide upon a restaurant. Yeah – "I don't care" is not a restaurant, so don't tell me that when I ask you where you want to eat. If this problem plagues your friend group, look no further for options than this list.

For Brunch:

Mama's Boy

$$ - An Athens favorite, this brunch spot has the best biscuits in the Classic City. If you're feeling adventurous, order the pulled pork and potato hash. If you want a more classic breakfast, get the Mill Town breakfast plate with a chocolate milk. Gets a little crowded, so be prepared to wait.

South Kitchen and Bar

$$ - Yet another fantastic brunch spot. The pimento cheese omelette is rumored to be great if you're into that kind of thing. Also great for lunch.

J. Christopher's

$$ - This chain serves all of your favorite but basic breakfast staples. Pancakes, bacon, and eggs – oh my!

Waffle House

$ - Because I honestly couldn't leave it off. Those hash browns though...

For lunch / dinner (check if they are open before you go)

Chick-fil-A

$ - Okay. You're probably wanting to know why this is on here. Last semester, I went six weeks straight (excluding Sundays) without missing a day at this place. I was considered a true Chick-fil-Aholic until my mother sat down with me and had to have an intervention. Fries are not vegetables.

HOWEVER, Chick-fil-A Beechwood is the HOLY GRAIL of Chick-fil-As. This place is so well-run that they all but sprint to refill your drinks and take your trash. Server who always wears the sweater-vests, you are my hero.

Trappeze

$$ - The sandwiches, pulled pork sliders, and burgers here are to die for. Order the pimento cheese appetizer if the 'rents are in town. Oh, and did I mention the fries?

Clocked

$$ - Hands down the best burger in Athens. I order mine topped with pimento cheese, but if you're feeling brave you can get one with peanut butter. The grilled cheese is also top-notch. Get your fries with a side of feta dipping sauce. You won't regret it.

The National

$$$ - Great dinner place to take your parents on Parents' Weekend. Very trendy with a great selection of apps and small plates.

5 Bar

$$$ - (probably my favorite restaurant in Athens)

From the shrimp appetizer to the personal carafes of water they bring to your table, this place is jam-up. If you can't already tell, burgers are kind of a big deal to me... But 5 Bar's burgers and fries are amazing. Also a good choice for Sunday brunch.

Last Resort

$$$ - Another Athens staple to swing by while the parents are in town, Last Resort's menu offers a wide variety of spins on your favorite classic dishes. ORDER DESSERT. The cakes are amazing.

Shokitini

$$ - Great sushi place with an extensive menu. I'll be real - I cannot read half of it, but everything I've ordered there so far has been great. Also, have I mentioned they let you do karaoke?

Porterhouse

$$$ - You won't be miSTEAKen if you eat here. Okay, that was bad. But Porterhouse isn't! Great place to have a steak dinner with the parents or with your friends before a date night.

Your Pie

$ - It's perfectly acceptable to eat a whole pizza by yourself here, because Your Pie specializes in personal pizzas and calzones.

Marti's at Midday

$$ - Marti's is my favorite place to have lunch, because with chicken salad, pimento cheese, AND pita chips, how can you go wrong? And your meal comes with fruit.

DePalmas

$$ - With three locations around Athens, DePalmas is a dressier Olive Garden that serves all of your classic Italian favorites. The cheese bread is incredible.

Willy's

$ - In my opinion, Willy's CRUSHES Moes, Barbaritos, and Chipotle. Nothing beats a burrito bowl with steak. Extra guac.

Agua Linda

$ - Agua Linda is your typical Mexican restaurant. I can't say no to queso.

Taqueria del Sol

$$ - Wow, do I love this place. I would eat every meal here, but unfortunately even though tortilla chips are triangular-shaped, they are not representative of the food pyramid. Get fried chicken tacos, carnitas, guac, queso – actually, just get it all.

Amici

$$ - Although I rarely go to Amici, it is a good place to eat that carries all of your favorite bar-style foods. Pizzas, calzones, wings - they have it.

Mellow Mushroom

$$ - Basic, but good. Start off with parmesan pretzels with beer cheese and drive it home with the buffalo chicken pizza.

Taqueria Tsunami

$$ - Somehow related to Taqueria del Sol, Taqueria Tsunami is an Asian-infused taco place... if that makes sense. Right downtown, it's a great place to start off a date night.

Pauley's Crepe Bar

$$ - Is it acceptable to eat dessert for dinner? At Pauley's, of course. If you have a sweet tooth, order the Nutella and strawberry crepe. If you're feeling salty (because at this point in the semester, who isn't?), order the buffalo chicken crepe.

The Grill

$ - My favorite place to late-night, go to the Grill and get FETA FRIES. Don't ask questions – just go.

Zaxby's

$ - Because there's one downtown now!

D.P. Dough

$ - Those calzones, dough... SORRY. Pretty sure they deliver AND they have crazy hours to solve any of your late-night cravings.

Little Italy

$ - So I've never actually been to Little Italy, but anyone who has been through Athens has seen the bright-green exterior of this pizza place.

Transmetropolitan

$$ - Another pizza place downtown, Transmet offers a wide variety of topping options, served on a thin crust.

Marker Seven Coastal Grill

$$$ - Located in Five Points, Marker 7 is the best seafood in Athens. If you like oysters, shrimp, etc., this is your place.

5 & 10

$$$ - Another place to take the parents on Parents' Weekend, 5 & 10 offers a Southern-infused take on classic dishes. Also located in Five Points.

Grindhouse

$$ - If you're on S. Milledge and need a burger, Grindhouse is your go-to. Order the fried green tomato burger. LIFE-CHANGING.

Taziki's

$$ - A Mediterranean-style restaurant, Taziki's serves gyros and hummus and the like. I'm not even into that kind of food and enjoyed it.

Utage

$$ - If it's lunchtime and you have to have sushi, go to Utage. Since Shokitini is closed for lunch, it's your only non-sketchy sushi option.

The World Famous

$ - The World Famous serves dressed-up bar food. People flock there for the chicken and waffles, especially on game weekends. If you're vegetarian (literally how), it's said to have good vegetarian-friendly options.

Saucehouse

$ - This new barbecue place on Broad Street has me in a committed relationship with their mac 'n cheese. It's that good.

Butt Hutt

$ - Speaking of barbecue, Butt Hutt does a pretty jam-up job of it. Located at the end of South Milledge near the loop, it's a little out of the way.

Cali N Tito's

$ - "Quirky" is an appropriate way to describe this place. With a Latin American menu, outdoor seating, and a canopy of Christmas lights , Cali N Tito's is a fun way to celebrate the arrival of good weather in Athens. You MUST pay in cash here.

The Branded Butcher

$$$ - A great place to go for a steak dinner or for Sunday brunch, the Branded Butcher is amazing. Get a cheese board.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
