It's that time of year that we all love and somewhat despise if we are in a sorority: Work Week. You might be the Dean Winchester of your chapter with your sarcasm and love for food. You could even be Sam Winchester who is a bit more patient and kind. Since it's your first work week you have a lot to learn from upper class men who might remind you of Bobby or Castiel with their guidance.
Day One:
You wake up optimistic about the week because it is only Sunday. Sororities meet one day early to review how the week is going to go and practice chanting for a little while. You are ready to take on anything that comes your way. You are beyond excited to see all of your sisters for what may be the first time since last semester. The thought of learning new things about your sorority sounds exciting and like a refreshing change from what you experienced last year. Instead of being yelled at, you will be the one shouting at people this year.
Day Two:
Well, you survived your first day since it wasn't too long. Waking up today feels a little bit different and you probably want to go back to sleep since check in time is about 9 am. Your voice might be a little bit raspy from the amount of time spent on chants and you might need one more cup of coffee to get your day started. You're still excited because you know this will all be beneficial in the end.
Day Three:
You have survived the first two days of work week and you are probably feeling it today since the late nights have begun. Your amount of coffee consumed in the morning has doubled and you probably woke up in fear of being late or getting fined. By this point you question if showering is even worth it because you will be burning up all day in the house with around a hundred sisters on a hot day. You also find yourself using breaks to either sleep or curl up in a chair around other girls while remaining quiet in fear of hurting your voice.
Day Four:
You're waking up today barely being able to talk, tired, and probably wanting to avoid seeing natural light for about three more hours than you are allowed to sleep. As you wake up you only roll yourself out of bed to throw on the nearest comfort colors shirt, Nike shorts, and sandals you own. You probably just throw your hair into a messy bun and wash your face in hopes to make it through the rest of the day. Breaks are spent either complaining about something that has happened throughout the course of the day or sleeping. Resting your voice is a fear that has passed as you have come to terms with the fact you will sound quite raspy for the next few days. Your only concerns are two different items: lunch and dinner.
Day Five:
The overwhelming scent of cold medicine hits as you roll out of bed for a new day. The preparation process has somehow increased with each passing day for new reasons. However this is one of the most crucial days for new girls as they go through mock recruitment for the first time. You are unable to roll out of bed today because other women in the Panhellenic community are coming into your house today and you are instructed to look presentable and well organized for everyone. Although you find yourselves looking extremely presentable, other chapters may be allowed to stay in comfier clothes which makes you all that much more irritated and tired of the week.
Day Six:
It's Friday which means it is the last day of work week. You've made it and all you can think about is sleeping and eating but today is the day that all chapters start helping freshman move into their dorms. Between moving in students, chanting, shortened breaks, decorating, and walk throughs of each day of recruitment you feel like you're going to lose your mind. This is the day when you all start to come together in realizing how much you've accomplished throughout the whole week.
As your weekend begins you all come together realizing one thing.
In one short week you will be welcoming new sisters into your chapter so all of the stress was worth it!
