I know everybody has heard it a million times… “Love yourself, or no one else will”, but it is the truth. Self love is super important in this day and age because real love and compassion is hard to get from another person, unfortunately. If you don’t have confidence in yourself, no one else will. It’s an energy that you give off to the people around you.

Think of energy as a first impression. For example; You’re a cashier at a local food store, as a costumer comes to you for check out you smile and ask them how their day has been. They respond with a negative answer like, “Bad. What’s my total?” with a grumpy attitude. Keep in mind that their day may have been the worst day of their life. You never know what someone could be going through. You then say, “Well, I’m sorry to hear that your day hasn’t been the best, I hope it gets better for you”. You smile as you say it and you make great eye contact. Then, as the customer walks away, they say, “Thank you”, but with a different attitude. Their facial muscles go from aggressive and tight to soft and compassionate. That is great energy you’re putting out to a complete stranger.

Because you were in a positive mindset, you put someone else in a positive mindset. And because you put a complete stranger into a better mood by using just a few words, you also made a great first impression.

There is a popular phrase that goes, “You get what you give” and it couldn’t be anymore true. Even if the first party gives an ungrateful attitude, turn it around. Take their negativity and make it positive. Imagine a frisbee and a boomerang. They are both going to come back to you somehow after you throw them whether it does it by itself without stopping (the boomerang) or someone catches it and throws it to you (the frisbee). If your energy is a boomerang, you receive it the same way you put it out there. But if a frisbee is being thrown to you full of negativity, catch it and throw it back with positivity.

Setting your mind from negative to positive can change how people view you and your worth. Of course, it doesn’t really matter what people think of you, but giving out positive and friendly energy can make people also send out positive and friendly energy. It’s somewhat like a way of Paying it Forward. Your energy goes to someone, then they send out the same energy to someone else. But, it is just as easy to send out negative energy as it is to send out positive, so be careful how you give a first impression. Try not to ruin a persons vibe just by saying a simple phrase like “What ever”. Little things matter in this world, so make the little things the best things.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
