After hearing the song Despacito everywhere, I found some comments from non-Spanish speakers that they would love to listen to more Spanish music. I decided to share a list with 7 Mexican songs, because we have a lot of talent in each musical genre that will capture your ears.
1. Corazones by Matilde Band
Compared to other bands, this is a more recent Mexican band. Jazz lovers will love to hear their music, and they also have some English and French songs. More famous bands in this genre are the Troker, T'orus, or Mole.
2. Un Par de Balas by C-Kan
Who likes rap? In Mexico, hip-hop is very important. There are a lot of rapers that you may like; for example, Cartel de Santa. Or, if you want some trap, you can look for Alemán... although it might be a little hard to sing their lyrics.
3. Azul by Little Jesus
Let's relax a little bit and listen to some "tropipop," a genre that comes from tropical latin roots mixed with pop. Other singers that transformed pop music by mixing it with different rhythms are Jósean Log, Caloncho, or a more tropical one: Sotomayor.
4. Gracias by Golden Ganga
Golden Ganga comes from the beautiful state of Jalisco, they play reggae in their unique style, with hues of funk, rock, ska, and other genres. You may also like Los Choclok, or the famous ska and fusion band Panteón Rococó.
5. Rincón Yucateco by Porter
Besides having great videoclips in their newest album Moctezuma, Porter is an important band for the indie pop Mexican music. Just like Enjambre, or Hello Seahorse!
6. Desde Cero by Altamar
Young musicians sharing their punk rock with a lot of energy and passion. Famous rock bands of "rock en español" are La Cuca, Héroes del Silencio, or El Tri. Perhaps they are not new, but when a band is good, you will still play it no matter in what year you are.
7. Piensa en Mí cover by Natalia Lafourcade ft Paco Familiar (DLD), Ismael (Los Daniels)
Piensa en Mí by the famous singer Agustin Lara, is an example of a Bolero, a genre that comes from Cuba, but was adopted by a lot of Mexican singers like Pedro Infante or, in this case, Agustin Lara. Natalia Lafourcade did an amazing tribute to this singer with the help of other Mexican artists.
There are many more musicians, rhythms, and styles; Mexican music can fit everybody's taste. These are only examples, but I hope they are enough to make you curious and search for more.
