Being a communication major is an interesting choice. Whether you choose it because people are your thing and you're super extroverted, or because your indecisive and can choose to do almost anything with it, there is really no wrong reason for being a communications major. And just like any other field of study, it has its ups and downs. Check out the following ten points if you are a communications major and see if you can relate:
1. You ask yourself, "hanging out with people actually counts as my major right?"
Will you just give me at least 1 credit hour?
2. You can persuade your professors to let you do anything
Thank you for allowing me to convince you to let us have a group test. You are the real MVP.
3. You dread taking math and science classes
2+2=5, right?
4. Group projects are your life
You fail, I fail. So lets not fail.
5. You tell your partner to just stand their and look pretty for your speech
Don't you worry. I got everything under control.
6. You can rock any interview you have
Talking about nonsense, yet still sounding like you know what you're talking about.
7. If you hear the phrase "cognitive dissonance" one more time, you will leave class
*Currently having cognitive dissonance with this class.
8. You hear, "Are you going to be a news anchor one day?" at least twice a week
We aren't media communications, we talk to people. Not at cameras.
9. Still don't know what you're doing post-graduation.
Talking to people is an every day function. I'm set!
10. You love people. That's why you chose this major in the first place.
Yes. I am an extrovert. That's why I'm here.
So communication majors, know that you're not alone. These are all normal occurrences that happen to all of us. Truly, one of the best thing about being a communication major is that you get to know everyone and they become your family, even if you only see them in class (because taking interpersonal communication brought out the worse in all of us). Between the many discussions and presentations, we still have so much to learn from each others. Lets keep it rolling communication majors!
