If You Have Never Left My Side, Read This

You deserve that "best" label.

So often these days, we let people in so easily, we think they are the best of the best, and will stay by our side through it all. They will be our best friend, the best boyfriend, the best Mom or Dad, best sister or brother whom will stay for a lifetime. Unfortunately, we give this "best" label to those who more often than not will not live up to our standards and who will let us down at the end of the day. Truth is, they end up hurting you, worse than that, they put you through a break up that left you in bed for weeks on end as you questioned if you still had tears left in you. A whole new level of anger floods your body as the betrayal from the best of the best sinks in. I would like to thank all those who didn't have my best interest nor planned to stay in my life for the long run. I'm thanking you because due to the hell you put me through, I will forever appreciate the ones who stayed through it all. I have always felt thankful to have them in my life, but now I know how rare it is for someone to truly and completely love and care for you.

To the ones who stayed by my side when my life was seemingly crumbling to pieces, and who experienced the memories of a lifetime with me, thank you for not only staying through the good, but thank you for sticking around and supporting me when things got ugly. Thank you for realizing that sometimes I need someone to lean on and open ears to vent to. Please know that it is appreciated and your willingness to help does not go unnoticed. Most of all, know that this relationship is not one sided and I will always be here to help you.

To know that you will always be there, not because you have to, but because you want to, is the greatest gift you could give me and these words are not nearly enough to make it up to you. Not only do I appreciate you, but I have an immense amount of respect for you. Respect because of the way you view situations with an open, mature mind and such selflessness, something that is super hard to come by these days. You deserve that "best" label and please wear it proud, you have never failed when it comes to helping and being there for me.

I truly wouldn't be able to be here today and in such great spirits if it wasn't for you. You have left an everlasting impact on me that has helped guide me out of thick fogs. When everyone turned on me, and left, you didn't budge other than willingly running to help me. When I was sad and felt as if I was all alone, you stayed by me and proved to me otherwise. When everyone left me crying in bed questioning if I could go on like this, you did everything in your power to wipe my tears away and turn that frown right side up.

So, from the bottom of my heart I would like to say thank you. I will never forget nor will I take for granted the amazing and loyal relationship that I have with you. I will always look up to you and respect you for too many reasons to name. Most of all, I hope and will strive to be the loved one to you that you have been to me. You truly are one of the best things that has every happened to me.

Sincerely, your best.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
