Being yourself in this day and age is an incredible challenge young people everywhere face. There's truly no escaping the opinions of others, between social media and the immense pressure to be perfect. It's increasingly exhausting. I'm here to say: I'm over it. You do you.
I'm over the comparison game. The looking through your classmate's Instagram profile and thinking less of yourself. Believing your life isn't as great, doesn't measure up to that of the models plastered all over your social media. Comparing your behind-the-scenes to others' highlight reels. No tweet, no Snapchat story, no Instagram post will ever define who you are, how wonderful and unique your life is. You do you.
Your young adult years are meant to be the years dedicated to finding yourself, discovering who you are and what you want out of this life. It's a time to figure out what you stand for, what you believe in, It's the first time you are able to create your own opinions of everything, free from the influence of your parents. It's a time to focus on yourself, not worrying about what others are doing with their own lives. You do you.
This life is way too short to try to be the way society says we should be, like everybody else. If you want blue hair, dye your hair blue. If you want to wear socks and sandals, rock those socks and sandals. If you want to go to dental school, start the application. Don't set limitations. Achieve all you desire. Create a beautiful life for yourself. You do you.
Truth is, I've spent a ridiculous amount of time feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. There's just no reason for it, for all you've got is this one life to live. Although it took me a while to come to terms with this fact, I can happily say that I am completely content with who I am, and the life I live. Once you learn to do the same, I assure you, you will lead a happier and overall better life. You do you.
