Ever have a semester where it seems like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, every day? If it is not one thing, it is another. If it's not one assignment that you have forgotten about, test you have to cram for, or paper you have to pump out the morning it's due. When you feel overwhelmed, stressed, and lost all the time.
These semesters happen, it could possibly be happening to you right now. Getting further into college into the junior and senior year, everything gets tougher. You no longer can cram for an exam like you used too or skip out on the assigned readings. The expectations are higher, therefore the grading is harder. You no longer have classes with a thousand assignments, but now your grade is composed of four, maybe five, exams.
You want to quit and say "next semester, I will do better". I am here to tell you, after your midterm break, you can start over. You do not have to wait until next semester. You can start over now. Take a deep breath and reflect upon this past half of the semester. What is not working? What is working? Where am I wasting my time, either with not studying or wasting my time with people? Do I need to drop an organization, side job, or situation to focus more on school? You can start with creating a better ending to this semester by asking yourself these questions and taking the time to reflect. We are often so focused on the future, we do not take a second to focus and reflect on what has been happening. Take time to reflect, you can learn a lot about yourself when you look back on how you have been doing things.
You can start the semester over with yourself and relationships too. Maybe be the first person to say "I'm sorry" or to remind that friend that you are grateful for them, even if you do not say it enough. Start each day with something that will help your mood elevate into a less anxious, frantic one. Hangout with someone that you've been meaning to hangout with, but you always tell that you are too busy. When you surround yourself with work and work only and don't give yourself a break, you most likely won't get anything done. If you take the time out of your busy schedule to laugh, be with friends, make memories, you will feel refreshed and ready to get back to the grind. You do not need a vacation to feel replenished, you can feel replenished after catching up with someone over a good cup of coffee or meal.
Take the time to understand yourself and how you work, this is why it is important to reflect. You may want to quit the semester and finish it so you can be done with it. We have all been there. But you can start over anytime you want too. It takes strength to move past the negative thoughts and instead think of positive ones, but you can do it. And your semester will end on a much better note.
