The beginning of the school year is always the calm before the storm, but what if I told you there is a way to remain at peace throughout the school year. Practicing stress relieving activities will keep you zen even through finals.

Making these stress relieving tips a habit will train your brain and will make your school year more obtainable and successful.

Plan Your Day

Although the beginning of the year takes time to pick up with workloads, its good to plan out your day or just be aware of what is ahead. Going with the flow allows your brain to go in panic mode and when this occurs, you actually accomplish less. Whether you need to plan out the week or as detailed as hour by hour, you have a visual of what needs to be accomplished and that it can be done.

Have A Day Off

I understand there are workaholics out there, trust me I am one of them, but working every day every hour is not good for your mental and physical health. Studies show that when you work your brain too much you actually obtain less information and record it improperly. allowing your brain to recover will make you less agitated when studying, work more efficiently, and see an improvement in your work. A day off or an hour will make all the difference.

Find Your Nook

Having a certain place designated for your studies is key to staying on task. Just like training a puppy to do their business outside, you need to train yourself to accomplish your work in a certain area to avoid getting off task. Whether it's at your desk or in a coffee shop, find an environment that works best for you. Avoid working in your bed. This space should be strictly for unwinding and work free. You will find that going to bed will be a lot easier when designated just for sleep.

Have a Safe Space

Referring back to your bed, find your safe space. Somewhere you don't do any work and go there to calm yourself. This can be a spot in the park, your room, or anywhere that brings you peace. always check in with yourself and cater to your needs because it is important to take care of yourself no matter how much you need to accomplish.

Unplug and Detach

Try and make a habit of turning off your electronics an hour before going to bed. allowing yourself to unwind will allow you to have a more deep and nourishing sleep. You will find that up the next day will be more enjoyable, refreshing, and productive.

Find Your Activity

No matter how busy you are you need to make time for the things you love. Going to the gym, taking a yoga class, or going to bingo is just as important as your study guides. I love yoga on a Saturday morning. Allows me to give thanks to the joys of my life and calm me for a great weekend.

Reward Yourself

Along with activities, treat yourself to something that brings you joy for all your hard work. this will motivate you to keep pushing and you will find that achieving your goals will be more obtainable with a light at the tunnel and ice cream waiting for you on the other side!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
