Being on a college campus means you are constantly surrounded by people talking about partying, drinking, and having fun on the weekends. As a member of a Christian campus ministry, there isn't really a lot of talk about this lifestyle. In fact, the only talk is that it is frowned upon.
I grew up in a Christian home, surrounded by the church. I like to think I know right from wrong. Some may think (and some DO think) that drinking alcohol is a sin. I, however, am not one of those people.
I believe that as Christians, we can drink a little bit of wine here and there. But, there is a difference between drinking alcohol and getting drunk.
Before coming to college, I knew I wanted to be a part of a campus ministry. And to this day, I am still a part of that same ministry; I've loved every minute of it. I also knew that I wanted to have fun with my friends and live my life for the moment. I wanted that college experience.
Let me tell you, I got more than I bargained for when I say I wanted that experience. But, honestly, I wouldn't trade any of it for the world. So, yes, I might go out on a Saturday night, but I still manage to wake up and go to church on Sunday morning.
I read my Bible almost every day, listen to worship music, go to church every week, pray and connect with others to learn more about Jesus. I am building my relationship with Him every day. So, just because I drink, doesn't make my relationship with Him any worse than yours because you don't drink.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16
Jesus did not die on the cross for just one type of Christian. He died for everyone that believed in Him. He died for you AND me, and he loves us both the same.
So, with this in mind, why do people put others down just because they drink wine every once in a while?
Mark 12:31 tells us to treat our neighbors as ourselves. We should treat others with kindness and love, no matter what kind of lifestyle they live.
We are not here to judge others. Only the man upstairs can do that.
