October is over, and there are officially only two months left in 2017. Though it seems like just yesterday I was deciding to forgo my resolutions for 2017, time has once again done what it does best and eluded me. I think this two-month mark until the end of the year calls for a little reflecting.
What has this year been for you? In the spirit of Zora Neale Hurston, was it a year that asked questions, or a year that provided you with some answers? Has this been a year of peace thus far, or a year that you have been at war with yourself? Whatever your answers are to those questions, there are still two months left. Two months to change the way this chapter ends, two months to tie up loose ends, two months to right your wrongs or continue to do the right thing, two months to say "thank you," or "I'm sorry," or "I miss you" before the events of the last ten months are left in 2017 forever.
Whatever this year has been like for you thus far, I hope you remember that these last two months still have the capacity to be the best of 2017. If you've been happily cruising through 2017, keep on going. Keep enjoying everything this year has to offer, making memories, seeking opportunities to make 2017 the best it can be. If you've been struggling, keep on going, too. It's often when it feels like hope is in vain that we get the "plot twist," if you will, that we so desire.
So instead of counting down the hours until the new year and next chapter of your life arrives, embrace what you have in the now, because the future is not guaranteed to anyone. Focus on making today the best day that it has the potential to be, through little actions like going out of your way to be kind to others or treating yourself to an extra scoop of ice cream or a night out with friends. Just because we're nearing the end of 2017 doesn't mean that at any moment you don't have the capability to make this year the best one you've experienced.
