First, I stare at the cursor, blinking at me, taunting me. I think, “What the heck am I going to write this week?” There are so many topics in the world, and I have a variety of interests that I could write about. Then I start thinking about what has been going on in my life —where I typically draw inspiration. I try to think of something that might interest people, but at the end of the day you can’t please everyone, so my primary focus is just to write about something that interests me.
I like to think that I’m funny, so I try to incorporate humor whenever I can. Some articles become more serious when my feelings pour through my words. Some articles take longer than others, because I choose my phrasing carefully so the message will get across to people. If I’m really fired up about a topic, the article is usually longer. Some articles are lists, another activity of mine — making lists. It’s a blessing; it’s a curse. Some articles are about places, some are about people, some are about whatever else I think will be interesting to read, or a lesson that people should think about.
Once I’ve written the body of my work, I always try to find captivating images. I want to draw people in and bring them through the article from start to finish, whilst still being entertained or intrigued. Then I think of a title that will capture the attention of whomever will be scrolling past the article on Facebook or other online platforms.
Finally, I hit submit! Another week down, and then I get to start thinking of something for next week!
