5 Ways To Avoid Writer's Block

Sometimes, you just have no clue what to write.

5 Ways To Avoid Writer's Block

We've all been there. There's a deadline you have to meet, and you have no idea where to even begin. Here's a few ways to get some creative ideas flowing.

1. Think about your own life.

Has anything happened to you that's relevant to what you want/need to write about? A more personal piece is often more engaging and relatable for the reader.

2. Talk to some friends.

This does NOT mean abandon your writing and go hang out with your friends instead. This does NOT mean plagiarize. If nothing in your life applies to what you're trying to write, ask around. It's possible that a friend may have some relevant content, or something that could inspire a new angle.

3. Listen to music.

Listening to music often helps get creative ideas going. Pay attention to the lyrics... they may provide you with a quote, or an idea for a new take on your piece.

4. Take a walk.

This does NOT mean completely abandon your responsibilities... but staring at a blank document will not make an idea pop up in your head out of nowhere. Walk around, and see if there's anything that inspires you.

5. Read a book.

Find a book that seems relevant to your desired topic, and crack it open. Not only will you find relevant information... you also may find some great quotes to reference in your piece.

These methods are geared more towards creative pieces rather than papers, but I tried to make my advice a little more vague so it can be applied to all pieces. Good luck!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
