Writer's block is the absolute worst. It feels as if you fell into a ditch where you can see the light but for some reason simply can't get to it. In another set of words, it's a classic case of "so close yet so far." So below is a list of prompts that I thought might help you get out of that rut!
1. Imagine that you just had your eyesight restored. Describe the color yellow.
2. Use the POV of your ex and talk about why you broke up.
3. If you had to live in a rural place how would your life be different?
4. Write an argument from a side that you don't believe in.
For example, if you are pro-life talk about why being pro-choice is right and vice versa.
5. Write about why Snape and Dumbledore are actually villains in Harry Potter.
6. Write your own episode of Law & Order SVU
7. Write a love story of the sun and the moon
8. Imagine that you're a recovering addict going through rehab
9. Take a constellation and write your own story behind it.
10. Rewrite a fairy tale
11. Write about a silver lining
12. Talk about your hero. Why do you want to aspire to be them?
13. Write a cinquain poem
14. Talk about your and your partner's love language
15. Write a story completely in dialogue
16. A social critique
17. Talk about a betrayal
18. Write about something that you're scared of talking about
19. Write about a happy childhood memory
20. Press shuffle and choose a random lyric. Use that as inspiration.
21. Imagine being stuck in an elevator with a stranger. Write about the progression of the dialogue.
