Would I Rather...

Mind as well relive a more positive part of my middle school days...

I'm a pretty introspective person, meaning I like to ask myself existential questions and dive into the weirdness that is my mind and answer them. This then usually prompts an Odyssey article or at least me laying on the floor, staring at the ceiling, and thinking about life and all its intricacies.

Instead of asking only myself one question this time, however, I'm going to combine my naturally inquisitive nature with the classic middle-school sleepover game "Would You Rather..."

Time to act like a 12 year-old for a reason! Questions from SignUpGenuis.com.

1. Would you rather be too busy or be bored?

Jokes on you, I'm already too busy. Honestly though, I would much rather be too busy. I don't have a "Let's sit and watch paint dry" mentality. I like being busy because it allows me to be perpetually active and forward-thinking. This usually means I'm not very good at relaxing, but that's a problem for Future Marisa.

2. Would you rather always say everything on your mind or never speak again?

Ooooooo...this is tough...I think I'd go with always say everything on my mind. It'd make for a very interesting life, that's for sure. As weird as some of the things I say are, I've actually gotten pretty good at censoring myself. It's a weird place, my brain, and I think I might end up shocking people with how weird it actually is...

3. Would you rather have a rewind button or a pause button on your life?

I'd rather have a pause button. I don't particularly want to re-live or re-do parts of my life, but I would like life to stop for a while. I think I'd use it for sleep purposes and thought purposes. I could pause life, work on homework, and get a decent night's sleep for once in my life. Alternatively, if someone asked me a difficult question that I'd like to spent five years thinking about, I could pause life and think about it (not for five whole years though).

4. Would you rather have a cook or a maid?

Definitely a cook. I like my disorganized life the way it is because I know where everything is. However, I also eat like a trashcan who has no concept of time. My meals tend to be one of three things: 1.) A banana/yogurt 2.) Food from work (because I get it discounted) or 3.) Fast food. This can be at really any time too. For example, it's currently 3:40pm and I'm eating a very healthy brunch (yes, that is breakfast and lunch at the same time) of leftover Panda Express. I feel like if I had a cook, I'd be able to save time, money, and my health.

5. Would you rather have the details of your financial life or your love life be made public?

The public would either find out that I go to McDonald's waaay too much or that I spend most of my Friday nights doing homework, so not too interesting either way...

6. Would you rather eat pizza or ice cream as the only food for eternity?

Pizza, hands down. I feel like there are at least a few more health benefits in pizza than in ice cream. Plus, it's easier to vary what's in a pizza to get a somewhat balanced diet, I suppose...

7. Would you rather make a phone call or send a text?

Honestly, I would rather text. I know this might be the millennial in me talking, but talking on the phone to anyone outside my family and super close friends gives me anxiety. I'm not a good on-the-spot thinker, so being able to think about my responses makes texting a more desirable choice for me.

8. Would you rather be too hot or too cold?

Too cold, definitely. Like I always say, you can always put more on, but there's only so much you can take off without becoming slightly indecent in the common individual's opinion. Plus, being too cold offers the opportunity for cuddling, which I'm always game for.

9. Would you rather be locked in an amusement park or a library?

Library. I cannot stress this enough. So many books, so much knowledge, and I'd perpetually smell old book smell instead of weird popcorn, hotdog smell. This isn't even a question for me.

10. Would you rather go to a movie or to dinner alone?

I would go to dinner alone. I have no shame in bringing a book and reading/eating in the restaurant for two hours. Literally none. Additionally, I tend to be a talker during movies. I'm not obnoxious about it, mind you (at least, I try not to be), but I like making comments to and asking questions of my movie companion. Also, I need someone to update me on what happened when I inevitably have to get up to use the bathroom.

There ya have it, folks. I highly suggest playing "Would You Rather..." with yourself, if you like to know random things about yourself. Or you could have a sleepover with your friends a la seventh grade and play it. What would you rather do?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
