Top Five Worst College Habits

Don't do them, please...

Being a freshman, the whole college lifestyle is still quite new to me. Sadly, there are a few things I've caught on to during my first semester: and they aren't the best. College students live very differently to the normal human. We basically just live off of insanity. IT'S GREAT. It's like fuel.

1. Eating Habits

I live directly above the #1 greasiest spot on campus. Let's just say that the people who own Carvings make a LOT of money. With no time and no money, most college students' diets turn upside down. Far from our mothers - who so kindly would make our home-cooked meals for us every night - and spending all of our money on ROOM DECOR, our wallets are almost always empty.

What do you do when you don't have money, but need food? FAST FOOD. Needless to say, the "Freshman 15" (referring to the amount of weight you are expected to gain in your first year) is REAL.

2. Exercise

Or the lack thereof. Along with the Freshman 15, a large part of the weight gain is that people just don't have time to dedicate to the gym. The combination of this, and an unhealthy diet, perfectly depicts around 90% of college kids. Unless you're an athlete... then you're probably fine.

3. Procrastination

Honestly, I'm an EXPERT at procrastination. The average college student spends the majority of their time carrying out the utter-most illogical pastimes: FIFA. Sunday, the Lord's day, is anything but.

No one ever plans anything on Sundays because they are strictly dedicated to catching up on everything that you were too lazy to even think about all week. You know you've lost when you are prepared to "wake up early to finish." And let's be real, you know you won't.

4. Substance Abuse

With all the stress, most students turn to substance abuse and substance dependency. This will only lead to bad things. These substances will start ruining your grades, friendships, and LIFE.

No one wants a habit like this, especially when they are proven to stick with you for the rest of your life. Don't develop one, the last thing you want is to be spending the rest of your life fighting an addiction that's costing you thousands.

5. Late Nights/Caffeine

Well... this is an actual video of me getting up in the morning... Sleep just isn't a thing anymore. My bedtime is LEGITIMATELY 2:00 AM. And then there are early morning classes.

What do you do? You stock up on RedBull and coffee. You buy enough to last you a lifetime, and then you drink it all in one sitting. Sadly, caffeine has bad effects and cause some serious health issues in the long term.

So people, JUST SLEEP EARLY.

Although I am aware of some of these problems, I hate to say it, but... I'm a college student, and I can't help but partake in a few of these habits. Let's just say that this article is here as a helpful reminder to all students, that there are other options.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
