The World
Why so lonely,
my dear little one,
who sulks in corners
far from the light of sun?
He who shuts out
the noisome world.
He who sits
alone and curled.
He who keeps
the world at bay,
who in isolation
prefers to stay.
Come out, come out,
and see the light.
give pause to this
unending night.
I shall keep you
safe and warm,
try to protect you
from all harm.
This world is not
so cruel, it seems.
Though far crueler
than your fondest dreams,
But what is life
without a little suffering?
Who knows what
tomorrow will bring?
Life is but
a risky game,
so, take heart,
you’re not to blame
for all the suffering
you’ve endured,
for the sadness
that can’t be cured,
But let me try
to mend the pain
so your lips
will smile again.
Let me love you
the way you wanted,
before this darkness
ever started.
Because though
this world is cruel,
it can also be
so beautiful.
