It's truly artistic!

The past three summers, I have worked in the Fine Art Exhibit of the San Diego County Fair. In about the span of a month, we go from taking an open indoor space and turning it into a fully functioning, proper art gallery. This has been an amazing job and I love being able to come home and work.

Yet there are a handful of things that I have learned in my years working there, that aren't necessarily things you would think of or learn somewhere else. But here are just a handful of the helpful and interesting things that I have learned over the past few years.

Some of these may even surprise you.

1. There is a lot more to art that you think there is

2. You really learn what the differences are when looking at pieces, or whether it's an oil, acrylic, watercolor, drawing, pastel, or print.

3. You learn all the in's and out's and thought that goes into placing and hanging a wall (Trust me, it can be frustrating sometimes).

4. The difference between a regular, over under or triplet hang.

5. You can practically level anything without a leveler (Now none of the decorations in your house will ever be off again).

6. You get an eye for what pieces go well together and how to create a wall around this (Great interior decorating skills).

7. The proper placement for info tags, award tags, and ribbons

8. Museum wax is the best thing to keep that painting in place

9. You get to see into the minds of so many people in the ways which they express themselves.

10. Temporary walls are easy, but tend to get re-hung....a lot.

11. Reinforcing a wall is not fun at all... especially when it has to be done for a light or small piece of art.

12. There is a proper and improper way to wire and hang a painting.

13. Some of the different techniques used to create different works of art.

14. Artists are really cool people, so if you get the chance to talk to them about their work, do It! You may find out some cool facts you never knew.

15. Art is a beautiful thing and seeing so many different artists, styles, techniques, and pieces come together to create a full gallery is truly a beautiful work of art in an of itself.

Whether they are practical things, creative things, or even just things that I personally have enjoyed learning, there is so much that is amazing about this job.

And I mean how often can you say that your job is to set up and run an art gallery with a ton of crazy amazing and out of this world pieces? In the end, I love working here and these things that I have learned translate over to the rest of my life and that is something that is even more special.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
